Chloromycetin Drug Info Chloromycetin Drug Uses: Chloromycetin (chloramphenicol) Otic is indicated for the treatment of surface infections of the external auditory canal caused by susceptible strains of various gram-positive and gram-negative organisms including: Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Hemophilus influenzae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Aerobacter aerogenes, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Proteus species. Deeper infections should be treated with appropriate systemic antibiotics. How to Use Chloromycetin : This medication is for topical or vaginal use only. To apply to the skin, first clean the wound as directed and gently dry the area. Apply a thin layer of ointment and cover the area with gauze or a bandage as recommended. Change the bandage 1 to 3 times a day as directed. For maximal effects, the wound must be cleaned before applying new ointment. For vaginal use, insert the prescribed amount of ointment deep into the vagina once a night as directed. Do not apply this in large amounts or use this more often than directed. Wash hands well after applying the ointment. Chloromycetin Precautions: If your symptoms do not improve within a few days, or if they become worse, check with your doctor. It is very important that your doctor check you at regular visits for any blood problems that may be caused by this medicine. Chloramphenicol may cause blood problems Chloromycetin Drug Interactions: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take. Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval. Chloromycetin Possible Side Effects: Medicines and their possible side effects can affect individual people in different ways. The following are some of the side effects that are known to be associated with this medicine. Because a side effect is stated here, it does not mean that all people using this medicine will experience that or any side effect: burning or stinging sensation, allergic reactions. Chloromycetin Overdose: Seek emergency medical attention immediately if an overdose is suspected. Symptoms of Singulair overdose include: thirst, dilated pupils, drowsiness, increased muscle movements, or severe stomach pain. Chloromycetin Storage: at controlled room temperature 15°-30° C (59°-86° F). Chloromycetin Missed Dose: If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as remembered and resume your usual dosing schedule.
